Luke 14:8-11 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him;9 and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place.10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be [a]humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Introduction
- Luke 14:8-11 describes that man is invited to a wedding (=celebration) as a legitimate guest
- Man is invited to enjoy blessings, healings, joy etc in this “wedding”
- Luke describes however that there is shame at the celebration.
- That shame could be divorce, strive, children taking drugs, …..
Why is there shame when mankind is invited to have permanent joy?
- Wrong priorities
- Pride, arrogance and self-will is put in front
- Luke 14:10,11 desribes that by using the term humbleness: At the celebration people put things in front which are unimportant to eternity (e.g. looking soap operas vs reading the bible)
- Pride, arrogance and self-will is put in front
- Sitting in front (=highest priority) should be: dedication to the word of God, Love of God and eternity
